A message from Bonnie: “I love this painting, HIGHLAND, with it’s wild, strong, and untamed spirit.  Matter of fact, I sometimes feel and look this way when I get out of bed in the morning!”  This is a Highland cow and is a Scottish breed of rustic cattle.  It’s long horns and shaggy coat are hardy traits to help them withstand the intemperate conditions of its homeland origination.  Highlands have distinctive horns and long, wavy, woolly coats with a wide range of colors including red, ginger, black, dun, yellow, white, grey, tan, silver and brindle. Despite their long hairy bang, known as a ‘dossan’, they seem to navigate their way around just fine!  Their gentle temperament makes them just as lovable as they are adorable.  This HIGHLAND cow resides near my studio, at Tangletown Gardens, near Plato, MN!
